In the next few years, I want to start trying to booth at conventions and art festivals!
I have always loved going to art festivals. To me it’s one of the best excuses to get some steps in while looking at all the creations people are putting out, while often being able to interact with the artist themself. The whole process I have always imagined would be fulfilling for an artist. Which is why I have always had an interest in having a booth at one myself.
I think to begin with, I am going to remain in the area. Travel costs and logistics would make it hard for me to booth at places that aren’t within a reasonable driving distance. So I plan to find one in the Rochester area as the first one I will attend, though I am not rushing on choosing one. I think I will have better luck at small fests during colder seasons as a beginning point.
First thing’s first, I will have to prep a bunch of artwork and logistics before I even think of applying or trying to booth. My first order of business is to try to narrow down the types of products I would want to offer. There are largely two choices for me that I have considered.
1.) Press On Nails
2.) Physical Media (Prints, Keychains, Etc)
Both have their draws for me. Press On’s would allow me to practice my trade I went to school for, but requires hand’s on creation of each set, meaning labor would be more intensive and harder to recreate. Also it may be a more diversifiable option if I were to want to start taking appointments or custom orders. Physical Media would allow me to draw and once the piece was finished, it would not require much manual labor outside of printing reproductions. And I could nurture my nerdier passions. Both are appealing to me. But I will be giving it more thought as to what direction I wish to take it in.
I think my goal is to end up at Cornhill Fest one of these years. It is one of the biggest art fests in the area, and has been a personal favorite of mine as an attendee. I love small business and supporting the locals, so I hope to be able to put my foot in the door someday.
Now let’s hope I can keep up with this 🙂 If I stay true to it, I will post some updates on my blog! Adhd makes it hard to commit to long term projects though so no promises <3.
